How much does a website cost in the UK? (2026 guide)

Quotes for the same website can range from a few hundred pounds to tens of thousands. Here is what changes the price, what to budget for every month, and how to compare quotes fairly.

What changes the price of a website

Two quotes for "a website" are rarely for the same thing. These are the things that move the price most:

The monthly costs to budget for

The build is a one-off. A website also has running costs, and these are where quotes are easiest to misread:

Our plans are Hosting at £19, Care at £49, Fully managed at £199 a month, with no minimum term and 30 days' notice. Figures above from the same 2026 guide.

Why some quotes are much cheaper

A low price is not a bad sign on its own. It usually means one of these:

None of these is wrong if you know about it. The problem is finding out after you have paid.

How to compare website quotes

  1. Send every supplier the same list of pages and features.
  2. Ask whether the price is fixed, and what would make it change.
  3. Ask who writes the words and who supplies the photos.
  4. Ask what the monthly costs are, and whether there is a minimum term.
  5. Ask who owns the domain, the design and the content if you leave.
  6. Look at live sites they have built, on your phone.

Website costs: questions people ask

How much should a small business pay for a website in the UK?
A simple, professionally built small business website usually costs from a few hundred pounds with a small studio to around £1,500 to £5,000 with an agency, according to published UK price guides. Ours start at £499 for up to four pages, at a fixed price.
Why do web design quotes vary so much?
Because they are rarely quoting for the same thing. The number of pages, whether the design is custom or a template, who writes the words, features like bookings or payments, and what happens after launch all change the price. Compare quotes against the same list of pages and features.
What monthly costs does a website have?
At minimum, a domain name and hosting. Many businesses also pay for a care or maintenance plan that covers updates, backups and small changes. Our plans are £19, £49 or £199 a month, and none of them has a minimum term.
Is a cheap website a false economy?
Not always. A cheap site built properly can serve a small business well. The risks are in what is missing: slow pages, no help with the words, add-ons you pay for monthly, or a site you do not own. Ask what is included and who owns it before you compare prices.
Do I own my website once I have paid for it?
You should. Check the contract. With us, you own your content, design and domain, and if you leave we hand everything over.
